Part of LSA’s Effort to Move Priorities for People and the Land Forward at the Local Level

BUFFALO LAKE, Minn. — Land Stewardship Action issued the following statement announcing its endorsement of Mark Koenig, running for Renville County Soil and Water Conservation Board, District 1.
“We are proud to support Mark Koenig in his campaign to represent the people of Renville County. We share a common vision for vibrant, growing rural communities and sustainable agricultural practices. If re-elected, we look forward to working with him to offer solutions at the local level,” stated Emily Minge, Political Organizer for LSA. “By focusing on local government, LSA aims to build participation and engagement in all levels of government. We know that there is so much power and possibility at the local level of government and we want to foster connections and understanding of how our values can be put into action.”
Mark Koenig is a former educator and coach, with over two and a half decades of teaching experience. In 2006, following the death of his father, he took over the family farm in rural Buffalo Lake.
“As a current supervisor, I have attempted to promote and support common-sense and financially responsible initiatives for the public benefit. I believe all citizens should have interest in, and benefit from, practical and useful conservation programs and practices. Our rural communities and population should be supported and promoted as positive environments to reside in.” Mark shared with LSA. “I am honored to have the endorsement of Land Stewardship Action. Their common-sense and practical ideas concerning the positive aspects of having more individuals and families involved in agriculture and residing in our rural areas is commendable. Every citizen should have the ability to be in agriculture, even if on only a small scale. Sensible and fiscally responsible governmental policies should be enacted to encourage and help sustain smaller-scale farm operations.”
To earn Land Stewardship Action’s endorsement, Mark Koenig sent responses to set candidate questions and cleared an internal vetting process with LSA’s Political Committee and Board of Directors.
This year, leading up to the fall elections, Land Stewardship Action is focusing on engaging members, supporting candidates, and building power at local levels of government. This includes elected County Commissioners and Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisors. This is a direct response to feedback from those in LSA’s base, as they feel most directly impacted by local government bodies.
