LSAF is proud to announce our endorsement of Aleta Borrud for MN Senate District 26: Rochester and Olmsted County!
Read the full statement from LSAF board chair, Beth Slocum:
“Aleta Borrud knows the people of Senate District 26 and is prepared to be our voice in the Minnesota State Senate. She believes in fairness, that everyone is in and nobody is out, that all our policies and governing must serve the common good, and that our common humanity means everyone can live with dignity and respect.
Aleta knows our farm communities and what they face. She knows that independent family farmers are stewards of the land, our water and our food, and she knows that we need more small and mid-sized farmers on the land to protect our local food supply, develop regenerative ag practices that work against climate change, and be part of prosperous rural communities.
Aleta also knows we face a farm crisis and that independent farmers need support from our legislature. Small and mid-sized family farmers face dire financial circumstances from discriminatory markets, corporate over-production, trade wars and unaffordable health care costs. She also knows we need more Farm Advocates to help our farm families get the resources they need to stay in business, like active assistance in restructuring farm loans and having a level playing field in open markets.
Aleta knows, too, that farmers are not the only ones facing obstacles to affordable and accessible healthcare. For her, healthcare is a basic right, and everyone must have easy access to affordable, high-quality health care. Her career as a doctor in public health is the foundation for her passion that all people deserve to be treated equally in the clinic or hospital, no matter their insurance status or ability to pay.
Lastly, Aleta believes in people-centered government that does indeed serve the common good–government that values and serves farmers and working people over corporate profits. Farmers need fair markets, fair pricing, and honest competition. Workers need fair wages and safe, healthy working conditions, plus paid sick leave and paid family leave. No matter when you decided to make Minnesota your home, you and your friends and neighbors should be able to support yourselves and your families and live with dignity and respect. That’s something Aleta stands by, and that’s why the Land Stewardship Action Fund Board is proud to endorse her in her run for the Minnesota State Senate.”
